Volando sobre las islas Whitsundays

Y llegamos a nuestra parte favorita del viaje, y digo
nuestra porque tanto mi amigo Cristian como mi amiga Angélica admiten que fue
increíble. Como os conté en el post anterior, Airlie beach es la ciudad que conecta con las islas Whitsundays. Se trata de un conjunto de 74 islas paradisíacas
rodeadas por la Gran Barrera de Coral
y con unos paisajes dignos de admirar. Fueron descubiertas en 1770 por el
Capitán Cook que decidió bautizarlas así porque pasó por ellas día de
Pentecostés, llamado ‘Whit Sunday’ en inglés.
And we arrive
to our favourite part of the trip, and I say ‘our’ because both of my friends,
Cristian and Angélica, agree that it was amazing. As I told you in the previous
post, Airlie beach is the city that connects with the Whitsundays Islands. That
is a group of 74 tropical islands surrounded by the Great Barrier Reef and with
stunning landscapes. They were discovered in 1770 by the Captain Cook, who
decided to call them ‘Whitsundays’ because he passed trough them the Pentecost
day, also known as ‘Whit Sunday’.
Empezamos el día con un vuelo en avioneta a través de
las islas. La compañía GSL Aviation
nos vino a buscar a la puerta del hostal y nos llevo al aeropuerto de
Whitsundays. Es una base área muy pequeña y de la que llama la atención las
enormes casas que la rodean. Estas mansiones pertenecen a personas con un alto
poder económico que pasan sus vacaciones en esta zona de Australia y que poseen
aviones privados para viajar de isla en isla.
We started
the day with a light aircraft flight over the islands. The company GSL Aviation
came to pick us up to the hostel and took us to the Whitsundays airport. It’s a
small one, where the huge houses that surrounded it attract the attention of
everybody. The owners of these mansions are people with high economic power who
spend their holidays in this part of Australia and have private planes to
travel from island to island.

El vuelo duró una hora y nos permitió conocer mejor
los arrecifes. Entre ellos destacan sobre todo Day Dream island, por ser el primer lugar en el que construyó un
hotel en el año 1930; Hamilton island,
con el resort más grande y la que suele recibir más turistas al ser la única
que cuenta con su propio aeropuerto; Hayman
island, la más exclusiva con su hotel de cinco estrellas al que suelen ir
los famosos, Long island o Cook island.
The flight lasted
an hour and let us to know better the reefs. The most important ones are Day
Dream Island, because it was the first place where a hotel was built; Hamilton
Island, with the largest resort and which usually receives more tourist because
is the only one that has an airport; Hayman Island, with its most exclusive
five-stars hotel, where famous people go; Long Island or Cook Island.

Sin embargo, la isla más impactante es la Whitsunday debido a su más que conocida
playa Whiteheaven, declarada en
varias ocasiones como uno de los arenales más bonitos del mundo y no es para
menos. La vista área es alucinante, los colores turquesas del mar se entremezclan
con la arena blanca, todo esto rodeado de unas montañas con abundante vegetación.
But the most
striking island is Whitsunday, because of the Whiteheaven beach, declared on
several times as one of the most beatiful beaches in the world and you cant
wonder why, you will realised when you first see it. The view is amazing the turquoise color of
the sea mingles with the white sand, all surrounded by mountains with lush
vegetation.
Pudimos sobrevolar también la parte de la barrera de
coral ubicada en esta costa y ver así el Heart
Reef, una parte de la misma que tiene forma de corazón y que aparece con
frecuencia en artículos y documentales. Hacia las nueve de la mañana estábamos
de vuelta en Airlie beach para seguir con nuestro tour por las Whitsundays.
We could
also fly over a part of the coral reef located on this coast and see the Heart
Reef, a piece of it which is heart-shaped and which appears frequently in articles and
documentaries. Around nine o’clock we
were back at Airlie beach to continue
our tour around the Whitsundays.
